Eligibility
- This photo contest is open to individuals over the age of 18.
- Submitted photos with stories must be the sole property of individuals entering the contest.
Contest Dates
January 22nd-February 9th submissions will be accepted. February 10th they will be posted on Facebook. February 21st the winners will be announced.
Entry Guidelines
- Theme: Entries should be a personal representation of “Love Grows Here: Share your Arboretum love story.” Entrants can enter a photo and story of how the Yakima Area Arboretum impacted their personal love story or share a photo and story about anything they love about the Arboretum.
- Photography: Entries should include the Arboretum as the background.
- Number: An individual who meets the eligibility requirements may enter once per day. Multiple entries of the same stories will be counted as a single entry.
- Entry Process: Beginning on January 15th, entries should be submitted via email to with “Love Grows Here” in the subject line. Upload your photo and a 250 word or less story. Be sure to include your name and contact information as well. If your entry meets contest eligibility guidelines, you will receive a follow up email with the link to your official entry. We reserve the right to deny submissions that do not adhere to our Facebook guidelines. For example, content containing offensive, obscene, racist, homophobic, sexist or sexually explicit language or photos will not be accepted.
Judging & Awards
Several prizes are available and will be awarded based on the following criteria: The First, Second and Third prizes will be awarded to the entries in the Facebook album with the highest Facebook engagement scores.
Awards
- First Place Prize: One free class registration up to $50. (Expires December 2024)
- Second Place Prize: Free Arboretum t-shirt of your choosing
- Third Place Prize: $10 gift certificate to the Treehouse Gift Shop
Notification of Winners
Winners will be announced on Facebook on February 14, 2024. If a winner does not respond to notification of the win within 14 days, the winner will be disqualified and a new winner will be chosen, based on the established judging criteria.

Use of Submissions
By entering this competition, you agree that Yakima Area Arboretum retains the right to unlimited use of the submitted photographs and stories for publicity and promotion, without compensation. As a condition of participation, you waive any claim of infringement against the Yakima Area Arboretum based upon use of the submitted photograph and story, and agree to hold harmless Yakima Area Arboretum from any claims or expenses arising as a result of any allegation that you did not own or were not authorized to allow publication and reproduction of the photograph. Contest is subject to all applicable United States federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
